The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world. Ensuring human comfort, productivity, and safety while practicing environmental stewardship is the mission of AHRI. Through our certification program, standards, advocacy, and other activities, we strive to help save energy, improve productivity, and ensure a better environment.

AHRI’s internship program is approximately 8 weeks long, beginning in early June. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to professional projects and in turn, develop their skills in problem solving, research, and communication while working in a team-oriented environment. This internship is based in our main office in Arlington, VA. Join us and see how AHRI strives to Make Life Better.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated intern for our Advocacy Team! The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but a general engineering major is acceptable as well.

Your internship experience will include:
  • Evaluate the current project tracking and management system and identify sticking points or opportunities for improvement. Create brief reports that cover problems, opportunities, and possible new features that would improve the workflow.
  • Complete a literature review of recent AHRI and AHRTI projects, including project charters, contracts, and proposals. Consult with Research staff on current statuses and key points.
  • Complete a full meeting cycle around a specific project, including planning, agenda development, approval processes, meeting operation, and minutes. Learn proper formatting, writing style, and organizational practices.
  • Compile a list of current issues and trends in the HVACR (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration) world. Issues can be within the realm of policy, regulatory, technical issues/advancements, or research trends.
  • Attend various meetings and webinars both within and outside the organization to learn about these issues and gain an understanding of how the public and private sectors interact and coordinate.
     
Qualifications: Actively pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university. Consideration will be given to recent graduates (no more than 6 months since graduation date).

Skills: Microsoft Office skills, basic research skills.

Compensation: This is a part-time paid internship at $20/hour, up to 28 hours/week.
