The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world.

AHRI has an opening for a Senior Director, Communications and Media Relations. This role is responsible for overseeing AHRI’s global communications efforts and strategies, and speech writing for the Board Chairman, incoming Board Chairman, and President/CEO. This individual will report to the VP, Public Affairs.
Essential duties and responsibilities for this position are as follows:
  • Internal and external communications, media relations, social media, and speech writing for the Board Chairman, incoming Board Chairman, and President/CEO.
  • Supervise the Director, Brand Management & Marketing and Communications Manager
  • Serve as chief spokesperson for the association, establishing relationships with reporters and the media at key publications.
  • Serve as editor of all AHRI publications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues important to the association’s membership for the purpose of communicating AHRI’s positions on those issues to individuals and groups within and outside of the association

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in media relations or strategic communications.
  • Three to five years of relevant communications/media experience on Capitol Hill, in a federal agency, or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of experience supervising staff.

AHRI offers a full benefits package which includes health insurance, matching contributions to a 401k retirement plan, a flexible work schedule,  and a friendly work environment. The salary range for this position is $152,800 - $198,160 based upon relevant experience

The work location for this position is our office in  Arlington, VA. Candidates local to the Northern Virginia/DC-Metro area will be given preference. Candidates will be required to take a writing assessment during the interview process.  AHRI does not have a hybrid work program; however, subject to supervisor approval, AHRI employees are eligible for participation in AHRI's alternate workplace program after 90 days of employment and a 90-day appraisal at a level of meets expectations.
